Biking Around Vancouver | Part III

Vancouver Canada

we read that the best way to see the city was via a bicycle! so we went to english bay bike rentals on davie street and rented two bikes for the day ($48 total for bikes and helmets. not bad, right?).

Vancouver CanadaVancouver Canada

vancouver is a great city for cyclists since they have so many bike paths!  too bad we only lasted 4 hours! we started in english bay

  • circled around stanley park (along the seawall).
  • road past false creek
  • through granville island
  • to kitsilano park
  • then over the burrard street bridge (this one almost killed me)

  • grouse ultimate experience – $49.95 per person includes a free shuttle to grouse mountain, the skyride and eye of the wind (view of vancouver from top of a wind turbine).
  • capilano suspension bridge park – $$31.95 per person includes a shuttle and automatic entrance to see the capilano suspension bridge and cliffwalk!

Strolling Through Vancouver | Part I

Vancouver, Canada

we heard so much about you, tim horton. we thought we’d try you out before our walk around the city.

Vancouver, Canada

we were staying in yaletown and decided to see how much of vancouver we could walk.  our stroll started in sunset beach then:

  • along english bay and second beach
  • through stanley park
  • around lost lagoon
  • finally to canada place

pretty sure we walked over 20,000 steps that day. our feet hurt and we were exhausted by the end of it but it was worth it. the city is gorgeous!

Smoke City Market | Sherman Oaks, CA

Smoke City Market | Sherman Oaks

annnd we’re back. we took a break from bbq for awhile after being burnt out after trying gus’ bbq, baby blues, bludsos and lucille’s bbq all in a month to two months. enter smoke city market.

we were thrilled when we walked into eclectic western decor.  this has to be good.

before coming here, we read that the restaurant suggests that you shouldn’t put bbq sauce on their ribs. however, it does provide bbq sauce on each table if you feel so inclined.  we ordered:

  • baby back ribs
  • side of potato salad
  • bbq beast – brisket, pulled pork, sausage, cole slaw, hot vinegar (per recommendation)

alright. the ribs.  they were moist but rather tasteless! you would think if the recommendation is to not use bbq sauce, that the meat itself should be well seasoned.

now the bbq sauce.  i personally like a smokey, sweet bbq sauce.  therefore, tangy is just not my thing.  i did not love the bbq sauce but drenched my ribs in it anyway since it really needed flavor.

potato salad was good.

the bbq beast. i liked the bbq beast a lot better than the ribs.  but that isn’t really saying much.  oddly, the sausage was what stood out in the sandwich.

Smoke City Market | Sherman Oaks

  • food:  we really wanted to like this place.  the bbq just fell short.  ribs were under seasoned and bbq sauce was very tangy.  sandwich was ok but still just meh.
  • service:  cashier was amazingly nice, energetic and helpful! this was the main reason we really wanted to fall in love with the bbq here.
  • ambience:  eclectic, bright, and very western.  clean and very well lit.
  • parking:  this place is on van nuys (a main street) near all the car dealerships.  ample street parking.
  • overall:  no our favorite.
